Top 10 Halloween Costumes From your Closet

Posted by Lisa in halloween costumes

Halloween is coming up and we are in an economic crisis! Your friends are throwing a Halloween party and you will need a Halloween costume. Being pinched for money doesn’t have to mean you have to have a poor Halloween costume. It’s time to get creative and dive into your closet.

Your closet is one of the best places to get a custom, hit Halloween costume. Here is a top 10 list of the best costumes you can put together by simply walking over to your closet and putting things together.

  1. The Old Ghost Costume: Grab an old white sheet, cut out some eyes and throw it over yourself. Make sure it’s short enough so that you don’t. If you want to get fancy, make a slit for the mouth J
  2. Clown: Here you want to find some clothes that are too large. Decorate by using either fabric paint, or markers. For those who dare try tie-die, Halloween is the best time to use it. Tack on a cheap wig, hat, and make-up. You may also stuff the extra space in clothing with tissue. However this could be messy!
  3. Scarecrow: Over sized flannel shirt, faded blue jeans with patches, rope for belt and to tie at the cuffs of his jeans and sleeves, stuff the shirt and jeans with plastic grocery, or paper, a little bit of straw to hang out of jeans and shirt. Add a little bit of make-up.
  4. The American tourist: For the guys out there: Start with a loud Hawaii shirt, shorts, and a large straw hat. For the girls: bright loud dress, flats, big sun hat, straw bag. Don’t forget to have a camera, and maps hanging out, of every pocket and purse. Look of being lost can add to the effect. Guys can use a tourist bag.
  5. 1960s Hippy: This one is hard, after all its all back in style! What is real, and what is costume? ;-) Tie die clothing, long wig (in the old days we called a “fall”, sandals, headband, anything with fringe on it (vests, purse, etc.) light colored sun glasses.
  6. Old man: Dark paints (cuffed), and jacket, most any dress shirt, men’s flannel hat, walking cane. Gray the hair, with any of the commercial temporary colors, or dust with a little flour.
  7. Old woman: Old style dress, just below knee, knee-hi stockings rolled down a little, oxfords, large black purse.
  8. A real nerd. Slick back the hair, grab some paints that are too short, white shirt, white socks, penny loafers, or lace up oxfords, pocket protector, with lots of pens, dark rim glasses (don’t forget to tape the corner, or at least paper clip it) briefcase, or backpack for treat bag.
  9. Japanese Doll: My daughter won with this costume! Her face was painted white, she had red rosy cheeeks all shaped in a circle, Hair in buns, thoung slippers, and a kimono(chinese dress)
  10. Miss. America: Use an old bridesmaid dress or an old formal dance dress, add a pair of gloves, a tiara, some oversized jewelry, and heals. For the banner, a piece of wide ribbon, and write “Miss. America” in glitter.

These are just some of the cheapest, yet creative ways to start planning your halloween costume this Friday, October, 31, 2008. Also, for great Halloween ecards to send to all your friends absolutely FREE, visit our Free Halloween Ecards website.
